 Leicester Ecohouse

EnglishGujarati

The EcoHouse, Leicester's internationally renowned environmental showhome, demonstrates hundreds of environmental features and ideas, inspiring and encouraging visitors to make green changes to their own homes and gardens. Situated just off the Hinckley Road in Western Park, the EcoHouse is easily accessible by public transport, bicycle or car.

Set up and managed by Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire, with financial support from Leicester City Council, the EcoHouse reopened in February 2000 after a major expansion and refurbishment funded by the National Lottery, the European Union and more than 100 businesses. More than 100,000 visitors have been to the EcoHouse since it first opened in 1989, including royalty and Government Ministers. Just by walking round the EcoHouse the visitor is struck by many environmental options, as the whole house incorporates products and materials selected for their green credentials.
The EcoHouse is full of information, with a number of different sources to call on. An audio trail is available to all visitors (2 or 1 concessions) and this offers up to 40 minutes of explanation as you wander around. Most rooms have touch screen computers with much detailed information about the products on view, interactive games to play including environmental computer games for children, and a video showing how the EcoHouse was constructed.

The staff are very willing to try to offer further advice and to search for information if it is not immediately available.
